When the days get longer and the light pours back in, every dusty corner suddenly shows. Spring cleaning is that once a year deep refresh that makes the whole house feel lighter. The trick is to have a plan so it feels doable instead of endless. Here is a simple, room by room spring cleaning checklist you can work through at your own pace.

Open the Windows and Make a Plan

Start by letting fresh air in, then decide how you want to tackle it. You do not have to clean the whole house in a day. Spread it across a week, one or two rooms at a time, and it stays manageable. Gather your supplies in a caddy so you carry everything from room to room in one trip.

Declutter Before You Deep Clean

Cleaning around clutter just moves it around. Clear surfaces and donate what you no longer use first, then clean the space that is left. It is faster, and the results last longer. If you need a gentle push, my decluttering guide pairs perfectly with a spring refresh.

Work Top to Bottom, Room by Room

Always clean from high to low so dust falls onto surfaces you have not cleaned yet. Start with ceiling corners, light fixtures, and shelves, then work down to furniture, and finish with floors. Finishing one room completely before moving on keeps you motivated and the house usable while you go. For the full method, see my room by room cleaning guide.

Reach for Gentle, Natural Cleaners

Spring is the season of open windows and fresh air, so it is the perfect time to skip the harsh chemicals. Simple ingredients you already have clean beautifully and leave the house smelling fresh, not fumey. My natural cleaning tips show you exactly what to mix.

The Room by Room Spring Cleaning Checklist

Check these off as you go:

  • Whole house: dust ceiling corners, wipe baseboards, clean light fixtures and switch plates, wash windows.
  • Kitchen: clean inside the fridge and oven, wipe cabinet fronts, descale the kettle, deep clean the sink.
  • Bathrooms: wash shower curtain and bath mats, scrub grout, clear expired products, polish fixtures.
  • Bedrooms: flip or rotate the mattress, wash pillows and duvet, vacuum under the bed.
  • Living areas: vacuum upholstery, wash throw blankets, wipe electronics, clean under cushions.
  • Floors: vacuum and mop everywhere, including the corners you usually skip.

For the heavy duty version, my deep cleaning checklist covers every last task.

Keep It Fresh All Year

Once your home is sparkling, the goal is to keep that feeling without doing it all again in July. A light weekly routine does the trick. My cleaning schedule keeps everything fresh with just a little effort each day. Save this checklist, open those windows, and enjoy the clean slate that a good spring refresh brings.
